What is a neck lift?
A neck lift is actually a set of procedures used to enhance the appearance and rejuvenate your neck, each technique can be used together or in combination with the others. A plastic surgeon will need to advise on which combination is best for you
Are there different ways to achieve a neck lift?
- Cervicoplasty is the procedure used to remove excess skin
- Platysmaplasty removes or reshapes the superficial neck muscles that lead to the vertical bands seen at the front of the neck as one ages (sometimes unkindly referred to as a 'turkey neck'). These are severe in some people.
- Liposuction of the neck is specifically for people who have double chins and a very poor defined angle between the jaw and the neck but do not have the vertical bands referred to above.
- Botox injections can help if you have mild fullness or banding of the neck skin.
A neck lift can be done in combination with a full facelift or alone, and may require an incision underneath and behind the ear, or under the chin. It will re-define the angle between the chin and neck.
Who would be suitable for a neck lift or neck reshaping?
If you have developed a double chin, vertical bands at the front of your neck or saggy skin and fat hanging down from the jaw or under the chin then you may be a good candidate for a rejuvenation procedure to the Neck. Neck lift surgery is usually performed on adult men and women who have healthy facial tissue and muscles and have realistic goals for improvement of their facial appearance.
Are there non-surgical neck lift alternatives?
Ulthera can also be used for non-surgical neck lifting and reshaping.
